Moving Through Life with Intention and Awareness

Yesterday, one of my clients—an almost 90-year-old powerhouse—fractured his hip while gardening. He wasn’t doing anything reckless, just enjoying a simple moment outdoors with his son-in-law. One second, he was fine. The next, he was on the ground, being rushed to the hospital.

Moments like this make me pause. They remind me how fragile our physical bodies can be, even when our minds and spirits are strong. They also bring to light a question I’ve been sitting with: How are you moving through your world?

A couple of weeks ago, I pulled the Grouse Medicine Card, which represents the Sacred Spiral—the dance of life, energy, and movement. Every morning since, I’ve reread its meaning, wondering what lesson it had for me. And now, after watching my client’s sudden fall and recalling a memory of my mom—who shattered her ankle in her 40s simply walking into her office building—I finally see it.

How often do we move through life on autopilot?

Not just physically, but in all ways—rushing from one task to the next, mindlessly going through motions, distracted, half-present, assuming we have control until life delivers a reality check.

What if, instead, we moved intentionally?

What if we brought awareness to every step, every action, every interaction?

Intention + Awareness = Attention

This equation shifts everything. When we give our full attention to how we move, how we breathe, how we speak, how we nourish ourselves, how we engage with the world—we begin to move with presence. And presence is where power lives.

Imagine a life where we no longer trip over unseen obstacles—physical, emotional, or energetic—because we are fully in each moment. What could open up for us?

  • Physically: We might prevent accidents, improve balance, and strengthen our bodies simply by being more mindful of how we move.
  • Mentally: We might catch those looping, negative thought patterns before they take over.
  • Emotionally: We might respond rather than react, staying connected to ourselves and those around us.
  • Spiritually: We might recognize the subtle guidance always available to us, aligning with the sacred spiral of life instead of being thrown around by it.

This isn’t about fear or hyper-vigilance. It’s about presence. A deep, grounded presence that allows us to navigate life with grace, stability, and clarity.

So today, I ask you: How are you moving through your world?

And what might change if you chose to move with intention?

This is yoga.
