5 ways I’m tackling S.A.D. this season
I wanted to share something personal that has been on my mind as the days grow shorter and darker. Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, (one of the reasons I was drawn to the warmth and sun of the tropics for so many years). While it can feel overwhelming, this time of year, I’ve decided to approach it differently. Instead of letting it take the lead, I’m choosing to be proactive, and I want to share with you my plan in hopes it might inspire you too. 💛
Here are 5 ways I’m tackling S.A.D. this season, with a little help from my wellness toolbox:
1. Get Outside and Soak Up the Sunshine ☀️ + 🏃♀️
Whenever the sun graces us with its presence, I’m making it a priority to step outside for a walk. Not only does the sunlight naturally boost serotonin, but the movement gets those endorphins flowing too. Double the benefits, double the joy! If it’s chilly, I bundle up and remind myself how grateful I am for this small yet powerful act of self-care.
2. Vitamin D3 + K2 🌿
I’ve added a high-quality Vitamin D3 + K2 supplement to my routine. This combo helps support mood, energy, and even bone health. Since we naturally get less sun exposure in the colder months, this is my way of giving my body the sunshine it’s missing.
3. Boosting My Mood with Essential Oils 🍊✨
Essential oils have been a game-changer for me, especially Wild Orange and other citrus oils. These oils work on a chemical level to stimulate feelings of happiness and calm by interacting with the limbic system in our brain. I diffuse them during the day or apply them to my pulse points to keep my spirits lifted. I’m also using a powerful 10-oil protocol designed to support mood balance, ease anxiety, and even manage my blood pressure. If you’re curious about how this works, let’s chat—I’d love to share more about it!
4. Choosing Happiness Every Morning 🎶🙏
My mornings set the tone for my entire day, so I’m starting each one intentionally. I play an uplifting playlist that makes me smile, spend a few minutes meditating, and write down three things I’m grateful for. These small actions remind me that happiness is a choice, even on the tough days.
5. Staying Connected and Scheduling Joy ❤️
Lastly, I’m making a point to connect with loved ones and plan activities that bring me joy. S.A.D. thrives in isolation, so staying socially engaged (even if it’s just a phone call) keeps those dark clouds at bay.
If you’re feeling the weight of S.A.D. too, know that you’re not alone, and there are ways to lighten the load. If you’d like to explore how essential oils or other natural tricks could support you, let’s schedule a consultation. 💬 It’s a great way to explore natural solutions and create a personalized wellness plan for your needs.
Here’s to choosing happiness, sunshine, and gratitude—every single day.
