When the Water Is Still: Reflection, Identity & the Healing in Between

There’s a video I took recently that stopped me in my tracks. (see blog photo)

A tree, standing tall by a calm lake, perfectly mirrored in still water. For a moment, I couldn’t tell where the tree ended and the reflection began. It was seamless. Beautiful. Mysterious.

And so real.

That’s exactly what healing has felt like in this season of my life — that blurry space between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming. Between the identity I carried for decades and the one quietly, powerfully, rising in me now.

Reflection is one of the most underrated tools in healing. Not the kind where you overthink and spiral into self-judgment — I’m talking about sacred stillness. The kind that invites clarity. Peace. Honesty.

Because when life slows down and the inner waters settle, you can finally see:

  • What parts of you are still true
  • What habits, beliefs, or patterns you’ve outgrown
  • And who you’re ready to step into next

We often think healing means fixing. But more often, healing is witnessing.
Noticing the gap between the reflection and the roots — and deciding, gently, what you want to carry forward.

For me, this process has included:

  • Letting go of old expectations I placed on myself
  • Rewriting the narrative around my worth, my work, and how I show up in the world
  • Creating new rhythms that honor who I am now — not who I used to be

The still water reminded me that identity isn’t a fixed point. It’s fluid, evolving, and deeply influenced by our ability to pause and reflect.

So here’s your invitation:

✨ Slow down.
✨ Sit with your reflection.
✨ Honor where you’ve been… but don’t be afraid to evolve into something new.

Who you’re becoming is worth meeting.
