Gut Health, Hormones & Healing: What I’m Just Now Piecing Together
Let me just say it: I’m in the thick of it.
This isn’t a “look what I overcame” story—at least not yet.
It’s more of a “wait… could this be why I’m struggling?” kind of moment.
I’ve been trying to lose weight since menopause. And honestly? It’s been frustrating, defeating, and confusing. I eat mostly clean. I move my body. I take my supplements. I sleep (mostly). But the scale doesn’t budge. My clothes still feel tight. My energy’s off.
For a long time, I blamed hormones—and yes, they’re absolutely part of the puzzle. But lately, I’ve started digging deeper.
And I think I finally hit something real:
My gut health may be the missing link in my weight loss and hormone struggles.
Let’s Back Up
I gained a lot of weight during a time in my life when I was living in constant stress—specifically, in an emotionally abusive relationship. But unlike the classic “fight or flight” response, I lived in a prolonged freeze. That frozen state—the numbness, shutdown, and survival mode—had a lasting impact on my nervous system and my body.
I’m only now realizing just how deeply that trauma affected my gut, my hormones, and my ability to feel safe enough to let go—emotionally and physically.
I’m Still Learning, But Here’s What’s Clicking:
1. Trauma and chronic stress damage the gut.
They compromise digestion, slow detox pathways, and mess with cortisol levels.
And when your gut is struggling, so is your ability to metabolize estrogen, absorb nutrients, and feel energized.
2. Gut imbalances affect hormone balance.
A specific part of our microbiome—called the estrobolome—helps break down and eliminate excess estrogen. If your gut bacteria are off? Estrogen recirculates, causing weight gain, fatigue, and mood shifts.
3. Even clean eating isn’t enough if the gut can’t absorb it.
You can eat all the greens and protein you want, but if your gut lining is inflamed or leaky, your body can’t access the nutrients it needs to heal, let alone release weight. On top of that, if your detox pathways aren’t open, toxins can settle into your fat cells!
I’m Not Here With All the Answers
I’m just now connecting these dots in real time.
Some days I feel strong and hopeful.
Some days I still feel stuck and tired of trying.
But I believe that the body always wants to heal—and that this awareness, this pause, is part of the process.
So here’s what I’m beginning to do differently:
- I’m taking gut healing more seriously — participating in a Health Reset twice a year, and taking my foundational supplements: VMG+ (vitamins, minerals & greens), EOMega+ (high potency omegas) and PB Restore (pre-pro-post biotics) on a daily basis.
- I’m dialing into nervous system support—using oils like Adaptiv, Frankincense, and Copaiba, breathwork, yoga, walking and grounding rituals.
- I’m learning how to work with my body, not against it.
- And I’m softening into the idea that maybe this journey doesn’t need to be about fixing, but about reconnecting.
If You’re in This With Me…
Let’s normalize the truth that healing is layered, nonlinear, and messy.
That sometimes, we’re not “failing”—we’re just missing one piece of the puzzle.
And for many of us in midlife? That missing piece might be in the gut.
I’ll keep sharing what I learn. I’ll be real about the ups and downs.
And if you’re walking through something similar, I hope you know:
You’re not alone. You’re not broken.
You’re a woman learning to trust her body again.
